Come As You Are hitmaker Beverley Knight has been announced as patron of HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

The British soul singer/songwriter, who lost her close friend to the disease in 2003, will work to end HIV transmission and support people living with the condition, and commented 'Today, HIV is not the death sentence it once was. Treatment works very effectively, meaning people who are HIV positive can live very long, very happy and very fulfilled lives - but as long as they know they have HIV and have treatment, and that’s the key'.
